Artist Statement

Justin Henry’s work is an intersection between visual and written narratives that dissect and juxtaposes race, culture, and objects that verbalizes the impact of the Black consciousness. Through his work, he creates conflict within the visuals by displacing contrasting subjects. In his artistic endeavors, he invites the viewers to engage with the work through their own biases.

Through interdisciplinary practice, he places himself as a creator to visualize stories of contemporary socioeconomic and psychological issues regarding Blackness. Exploring the metaphorical and mystical nature of Blackness, Henry accentuates the surrealistic impact that African Americans have experienced and experience.
